Overview

The Alabaster City Center is located south of the intersection of US 31 and Highway 119, just south of Alabaster’s traditional downtown. The site includes property owned by the City of Alabaster, as well as adjacent privately-owned lands that are likely to redevelop with the arrival of the City Center project.

In order to ensure that the master planning effort accurately takes into consideration the City Center site itself, and surrounding lands, the planning team has established separate study areas to reflect the different degree of planning detail needed on the site itself and its surrounding.

The Core Design Area is a nearly 196 acre area that includes both properties owned by the City, and adjacent privately owned tracts that are likely to redevelop in the future. The Core Design Area is bisected by the CSX railroad line and old US 31, and has direct access to US 31, I-65, and Highway 119. Planning efforts for this area will include: detailed site planning; preliminary design for key buildings; internal circulation and parking; and establishing regulations and standards for the City Center’s development. The Primary Area of Influence is a 664 acre area that includes land generally within one-half mile of the Core Design Area.

Planning efforts for this area will focus on: establishing transportation connections to the Core Design Area; identifying areas for potential long-term preservation, revitalization, or redevelopment; and ensuring a smooth transition between the City Center and the rest of Alabaster.
